IHSEA Esports Conference
The IHSEA plans to host a Virtual FREE Esports conference over the summer to assist all schools in Illinois with the main focus at the high school level. Whether you are a newcomer to the world of Esports, or a well-versed veteran, all are invited to attend. We are hoping to have several panels hosted by IHSEA staff, as well as coaches, teachers, and others from around the state. Please fill out this quick survey so we can begin planning our schedule. We are hoping to make this a regular event and we want to make this as big as possible.
Earn a CS endorsement through UIUC and DPI
We also wanted to share some important information for our teachers out there. If you weren’t aware, a bill was passed in Illinois to mandate that every high school must offer Computer Science as a course. Currently, there is a shortage of Computer Science teachers across the country. We wanted to pass along this information for any teacher who may be interested in shifting domains or just add marketability, no matter what subject you currently teach.
In partnership with UIUC College of Education, DPI is launching a CS endorsement program, in addition to other teacher-focused PD learning opportunities. The five-semester, cohort-based CSTed pathway is designed for current teachers in grades 5-12 with a valid Professional Educator License (PEL), and will be offered exclusively as an ONLINE program.
Please note that we have secured funding to offset 75% of tuition costs for an initial cohort of 35-40 teachers (enrollment begins April 26th) and will continue fundraising and building partnerships to grow the program for years to come.
Please feel free to share this information with anyone in your school including administration.
Extra Life Fundraiser
The announcements keep coming. If you are not familiar with Extra Life, check out their site and this video. Extra Life is gamers doing what they do best to help sick and injured children at their chosen Children’s Miracle Network Hospital.
IHSEA is partnering with Extra Life to raise funds and awareness for our local Illinois Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. All IHSEA teams are able to create an Extra Life team and rally to raise funds for their local CMN hospital: Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, HSHS St. John’s, and Children’s Hospital of Illinois. All funds raised through IHSEA will stay local to help provide vital services to kids being treated for injury and illness. Register with IHSEA for Extra Life to play games and heal kids in Illinois!
Extra Life will have a specialized set of recognition awards for our schools. The IHSEA will also be hosting a special Extra Life Game Day for all of our schools to participate. There will be plenty more information to follow. Stay tuned to Discord and Social Media for more!
The Growth of IHSEA
We would like to take this time to thank all of the schools, coaches, staff members, and most importantly the students who have allowed us to become a premier high school esports organization. We could not have done it without all of our volunteer staff and those coaches and students who took the time to help out their peers.
We are very excited about the upcoming school year because we are expecting to grow. When I say grow, I think we will double our current amount of schools and students. With that being said, we would love to have some more of you join us in running the organization. We will be looking for people to fill the following volunteer positions:
- Tournament Organizers and Assistant Tournament Organizers
- Moderators (Discord and Twitch)
- Graphic Designers
- Web Designers
- Community/College Outreach
- Game Specific Advisory Committees for Coaches
- Game Specific Advisory Committees for Students
- Expanding our Board of Directors – With focus on:
- Underrepresented groups
- College representatives
- Legal and Business representation
The IHSEA has so much momentum, thanks to all of you. We have so much more coming down the pipeline and are very excited to share all of it with you. But it all starts with the schools/students, so we really want to hear from YOU. We need to know what you are looking for at your school, what your students want, what their parents want, what your admins want, and most importantly where you want us to go. We are a community and that is what makes us great!
If you have any questions about what was said here please let us know via email firstname.lastname@example.org (new email). You can also reach out to us on our Discord server if you are already there.
